New site!

Right, so back by popular demand, the restaurant review site, but in a new format. Many of these reviews are old, just haven't gotten around to posting them until now. I'll try to date them where I can. You can still check out the old site here

Unlike other foodie bloggers, I however don't own any fancy camera gear - just an old Sony digital camera that works. Maybe if it breaks I'll look at getting something else, but likely just another simple point and shoot type thing that I won't break easily!

So here we go!

"Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter-faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn.

To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.

Vegetarians are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit, an affront to all I stand for, the pure enjoyment of food. The body, these waterheads imagine, is a temple that should not be polluted by animal protein. It's healthier, they insist, though every vegetarian waiter I've worked with is brought down by any rumor of a cold.

Oh, I'll accomodate them, I'll rummage around for something to feed them, for a 'vegetarian plate', if called on to do so. Fourteen dollars for a few slices of grilled eggplant and zucchini suits my food cost fine."

Tutti Frutti

Tutti Frutti
10420 82 Avenue

I'm not usually that much of a dessert person, but after going to Dadeo's, my friends wanted a 'light' dessert, and mentioned that Tutti Frutti was a short walk away.    While I'm not a fan of yogurt at all, frozen yogurt can sometimes be decent.   Essentially though, this is a do it yourself frozen yogurt bar, with different flavours of yogurt, and many toppings to choose from, then paid for by weight.  I believe it is $0.54 per oz, but I could be mistaken.

We walked down a short set of stairs, to a very white and clean environment - felt very 'Apple' if you know what I mean.   We went and grabbed some small 'cups' that are bigger than you need, likely due to your eyes fooling your stomach and figuring you can finish more - good sales ploy!   The flavours of yogurt that day included plain, mango, tart, black sesame, pink lemonade, chocolate, taro, and a couple others I don't remember.   What caught my eye was the cool amount of toppings, including cereals, nuts, fruit, bubble tea jelly, mochi, and pop boba.   So asian!

I loaded my own bowl with a squirt of mango yogurt, tart, and pink lemonade, then dumped some pineapples, strawberries, and topped it with mango and lychee pop boba.   I didn't think I'd gotten much, but the total for me came to a little over $5!   So overall, a bit pricey for what you got, but then again, ice cream lately has gotten a lot higher priced too - and I got to customize this one quite a bit.

I didn't care for the tart or mango yogurt, a bit too yogurty for me, but the pink lemonade was like eating a lemon ice gelato.  So good!   The pop boba were surprising, I'd at first thought they were like the tapioca bubbles from bubble tea, but these ones were filled with juice, and popped when you bit into them.  There were a few jokes about juicy balls, but I'll let you figure that one out.  :)

Anyways, this is something I can see growing into more markets including Calgary - and it's a franchise, so someone's likely to start one soon.
