New site!

Right, so back by popular demand, the restaurant review site, but in a new format. Many of these reviews are old, just haven't gotten around to posting them until now. I'll try to date them where I can. You can still check out the old site here

Unlike other foodie bloggers, I however don't own any fancy camera gear - just an old Sony digital camera that works. Maybe if it breaks I'll look at getting something else, but likely just another simple point and shoot type thing that I won't break easily!

So here we go!

"Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter-faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn.

To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.

Vegetarians are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit, an affront to all I stand for, the pure enjoyment of food. The body, these waterheads imagine, is a temple that should not be polluted by animal protein. It's healthier, they insist, though every vegetarian waiter I've worked with is brought down by any rumor of a cold.

Oh, I'll accomodate them, I'll rummage around for something to feed them, for a 'vegetarian plate', if called on to do so. Fourteen dollars for a few slices of grilled eggplant and zucchini suits my food cost fine."

Boogie's Burgers

Boogie's Burgers

While looking for a burger place better than the iconic Peters' Drive-In, I spotted a small place on Edmonton Trail that seemed to have been there for ages.  Considering it'd been around ever since I remember, I figured it was a likely candidate to try.

As I walked in, I was struck by just how '80s the decor was.   Like walking into a time warp, I was now faced with old arcade games, pinball machines, and the old menu made of those individual black letters on a white board.

What caught my attention though, was the number of milkshakes, but that the ingredients were also out to throw people for a loop.  For example, the Fat Elvis shake includes peanut butter, banana, and bacon.  That's right, bacon in a milkshake.  Turns out, I'd soon send a picture to friends, who took it upon themselves to create their own homemade edition, but that's my crazy friends for you.

The other thing I noticed, was the range of burgers, that contained everything from a pretty normal sauteed mushroom choice, to having hot dogs and fried eggs.   That and up to 4 patties worth of beef.  Shenanigans!   I immediately thought to myself, I need to try at least one of these random assortments.

I settled on the Jebb's burger, which included a patty, two pieces of bacon, a sliced hot dog, cheddar, Boogie's signature red sauce, and 'all the fixings' (lettuce, tomato, and onions).   What I received was a giant burger - not in height, but in width.  Some people might like a thicker burger, but the meat to bun ratio for me was just right, and I enjoyed every bite.

I'm definitely going to have to come back and try the other burgers here!
