This is just a few of the foods I've sampled over the course of this past spring/summer.
Oh, you ate one too, eh?
New site!
Right, so back by popular demand, the restaurant review site, but in a new format. Many of these reviews are old, just haven't gotten around to posting them until now. I'll try to date them where I can. You can still check out the old site here
Unlike other foodie bloggers, I however don't own any fancy camera gear - just an old Sony digital camera that works. Maybe if it breaks I'll look at getting something else, but likely just another simple point and shoot type thing that I won't break easily!
So here we go!
"Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter-faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn.
To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.
Vegetarians are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit, an affront to all I stand for, the pure enjoyment of food. The body, these waterheads imagine, is a temple that should not be polluted by animal protein. It's healthier, they insist, though every vegetarian waiter I've worked with is brought down by any rumor of a cold.
Oh, I'll accomodate them, I'll rummage around for something to feed them, for a 'vegetarian plate', if called on to do so. Fourteen dollars for a few slices of grilled eggplant and zucchini suits my food cost fine."

OEB
OEB
824 Edmonton Trail NE
So I'd been missing out on from what I'd been told, on a great little breakfast place just north of downtown on Edmonton Trail. I'd tried going a couple times before, but both times they were closed, but this time I was fortunate. The specialty I'd been told was poutine - not exactly any kind, but a breakfast one, that came in what appeared to be a takeout box. I took a look at the menu online, and definitely said to myself, I had to try this place!

The Himalayan
The Himalayan
3218 17th Avenue SW Calgary, AB
I'd heard good things about a Nepalese restaurant that'd been open since late 2011, and it'd been on the list of places I had to visit for some time, but hadn't had the opportunity until now. It's located in a very nondescript and small strip mall just up 17th Ave, and unassuming - until you step inside. Normally, in a small restaurant like this, there's not a whole lot of character, but surprisingly, it felt like you were transported into another world as you stepped through the doors of the restaurant. It was dark, but not so much so that you couldn't read your menu, and had a comfortable quality to the place.

A Ladybug Cafe
A Ladybug Cafe
2132-10 Aspen Stone Blvd SW
I've been meaning to write something about this little cafe for some time, but while they were at the Calgary Farmer's Market before it moved from the Currie Barracks, the owner was very protective of the product and hated if anyone took pictures. It was a shame, as I think she could have been a lot more successful at her business had she allowed for being a bit more friendly towards foodies.
With that said, now that she's moved on to a small location up in Aspen Woods, she's too busy taking care of her customers in line, that she can't really stop you from taking pictures now.
